Akai S2000

Akai S2000 Image

The S2000 is a professional and user-expandable studio sampler. The base S2000 model comes with 2MB sample memory which can be expanded to 32MB. Sampling specs are variable from 22kHz to 44.1kHz sample rates in stereo or mono and at 16- or 8-bit resolutions. All the necessary edit tools are here: time comp/exp, tune, pitch shift, truncate, looping, key placement, velocity effects and more. Up to 32 voices of polyphony, complete MIDI implementation, a built-in disk drive and a SCSI interface prepare this sampler for any situation.

Upgrade the S2000 as your needs grow. Up to eight outputs, digital I/O, four effects processors, expanded filters, EQ, and alternate internal disk storage mediums can be added to the S2000 making it more and more like an S3200 series sampler. The S2000's only fallback is its small LCD display screen, but that can be bypassed via an external editor. The S2000 makes the perfect entry-level studio quality sampler that can grow with you into a very professional instrument. It is used by Moby, Underworld, and The Avalanches.

Only buy this unit if it comes with all the goodies; the ability to add effects and access an envelope generator is through some expansion board. Annnnd not to mention that the floppy disc OS is the biggest pain in the world! They make it easy to erase the OS on the floppy, then you have to go to ebay for a new one. I ended up leaving this unit out by the trash when i moved, and was happy it was raining that day. don't pay more than 40$.

You need to install a scsi card in your PC. I do not know about scsi to USB since I use and old scsi card in my pc running winXP. The drawback is that I can not turn my pc on before turning on my sampler even if I don't want to use the sampler it must be on.
Anyway Mesa will work with the adapted series scsi cards.

If you get an scsi to USB to work please write it in here.

Was given a S2000 a couple of months back, and only recently received the system disc. So haven't had a great amount of time to fiddle and delve. I have found some programs that take the programming away from the small screen to the PC but I can't seem to find any information on the S2000's compatibility with any of the SCSI-to-USB cable or direct port adapters.

As my first pure sampler it would be handy to take advantage of any 1995 to 2013 cross-over connectivity.

lcaise: You need to connect the Zip drive to one of the SCSI connctors with aSCSI cable. Then the S200 on power up should see the drive. Maybe try and go to a menu were you can see the drives conncted. Try another ID. You cant format a drive before the S2000 has seen the zip drive. You might have an open termination point if the 2000 wont see the drive. Maybe the 2000 needs to be set to find the drive in the menu.. I dont have an s2000 so I cant remeber how the menu is. look in the manual for help
