Synth Pioneer Wendy Carlos Slams New Biography

Post date:

Wendy Carlos is without a doubt one of the pioneers when it comes to synthesizers, but is also very strict about her privacy. This has resulted in an aura of mystery around the artist, especially as she doesn't have any interest in public appearances or performances. Her "Switched-On Bach" album is credited with helping to establish synthesizers as credible musical instruments, but Carlos herself prefers to stay out of the limelight. The latest attempt to shed some light on her life came in the form of a biography written by Amanda Sewell and published by Oxford University Press this year.

However, while reviews by critics were generally favorable, Carlos herself was not impressed with it. In fact, the release of the biography prompted her to post a new update on her website, which is something that she hasn't done since 2009. In a post, titled "Bogus Bio Alert", Carlos describes the biography as something that belongs on the fiction shelf and claims that nobody interviewed her or anyone she knows for the book. She also stated that the biography contains zero fact-checking and that she doesn't recognize herself anywhere in there. According to Carlos, nothing in the biography is first-hand and she labeled it as presumptuous mean-spirited.

This is sure to be a disappointment to fans of Carlos whose withdrawal from the public eye has also seen her music becoming unavailable.
