Artist Profile: ATB

ATB is a relatively new but established Trance producer who's first major hit has in itself, already become a huge Trance anthem! ATB, better known to his friends and family as Andre Tannenberger, is a German born and influenced DJ, producer, remixer and dance-floor chart-topper! His first major hit was "9 PM (Till I Come)" which debuted in 1998. That track alone essentially brought ATB and his quick production skills out of his bedroom and into the spotlight...bringing him the opportunities to remix music from some of the top names in Electronica as well as allowing him to refine his own production skills.

9 PM (Till I Come) - There's that signature ATB guitar-bend sound. As usual, a minimalistic yet effective 909-drum beat sets the pace for a typical trance groove layered with a catchy and exciting filtered pizzicato-like synth-pad. ATB also illustrates the pronounced effect of how a well programmed simple bass-line that works with the 4-on-the-floor drum beat can establish a groove to move your body to!

Andre began producing music with little gear and an Amiga computer! Today he has an extensive production studio with two Yamaha O2R digital mixers, an Apple G3 and an extensive collection of analog and analog-emulation synthesizers and beat boxes! Although his gear and studio may have evolved, he still resorts to the basics for producing trance...starting out with a TR-909 for the main groove and beat. On top of that layers of synths, sampled drums, sounds and loops are added. Even so, Andre maintains a signature sound and style...especially his own unique pitch-bended-guitar-slide-effect that's been with him since the days of 9 PM!

William Ørbit: Barber's Adagio For Strings - ATB provides an exceptional remix of William Ørbit's cover of this classic for string instruments. ATB adds an evolved form of his signature guitar-bend sound and textbook trance groove and creates his own take on this emotional piece of music...and gives it a new home in our hearts and our dancefloors. Compare this with Ferry Corsten's version.

One of Andre's first projects formed in 1993 was under the name Sequential One which does in fact take its name from a classic analog synth that inspired him in his early days as an electronic musician - the Sequential Pro One. However it wasn't until 9 PM that he broke-through internationally. Since that time he has released more singles that have hit the charts and dance-floors such as "Don't Stop" and "Killer". He has also remixed music for Moby, William Ørbit, Technotronic, Future Breeze, Rank 1, Haddaway, A-HA and U96. He has also released an album called "Movin' Melodies" which is being followed up by his 2000 release of his newest album, "Two Worlds". His latest is said to contain 21 tracks ranging from chilled-out to full-on trance tracks. ATB has been working closely with many more great names in the electronic music scene and their influences will surely come through in the many more remixes, singles and collaborations we hope to hear from ATB now and in the future!
