Ferry Corsten has been making serious waves in the electronic and trance music scene! Corsten is a Dutch-born DJ, Remixer and producer who has, in a short time, created an impressive resume of music credits. Though you may not have heard of Ferry Corsten, you may know him by some of his projects as System F, Sons of Aliens, Moonman, Gouryella, Veracocha, Discodroids, Tellurians, Albion, 2HD or Pulp Victim.
Out Of The Blue - This anthemic trance cut must have the most lucious synth pads ever used in a dance track! Plenty of well timed filtering of the synth sounds add depth and emotion to his killer melody. From System F: Out Of The Blue, Tsunami 2000.
Corsten's biggest hit to date is the trance/dream house anthem, Out Of The Blue (as System F). It's already a classic track spun by DJ's worldwide. However, Corsten has also become known for his world-class remixes! From William Ørbit to Moby to rock legends U2, Corsten has managed to successfully remix their music. While adding his own unique style and signature sounds, he still manages to remain true to the original song. Their original tone and meaning is never lost in the effort to morph a classical or 80's rock piece into a danceable club mix.
U2: New Year's Day - This is such a cool remix it'll blister your ears from over-listening! Corsten easily takes this 1980's classic and brings it into 2000! While giving it a 4-on-the-floor trance beat, the live feel and sound of the Edge's guitars, and the song itself is not lost! Bono's lyrics are also still preserved, but with some added sampling tricks and effects!
"I feel that I am more of a producer than a DJ. DJing for me is more for fun, but I do think it is important to DJ, as my productions have benefited from that. I don't think it is necessary to do both 'cause there are many producers out there that just produce music, just like there are many DJs that just DJ."*
William Ørbit: Barber's Adagio For Strings - Another trance anthem in this remix of William Ørbit's electronica version of Samuel Barber's classic and emotional piece for strings (remember Platoon). Again, Corsten layers on his signature synth and drum sounds to generate an emotional and epic trance anthem that still remains faithful to the nature of the original song. Compare this with ATB's version. From William Ørbit: Pieces in a Modern Style, Maverick 2000.
Corsten is also one of the founders of Tsunami records, an influential dance and trance label. His anticipated new album also titled, "Out of The Blue" will be released under Tsnumai in Sept. 2000. It promises to be full of Corstens unique new breed of quality music covering many genres. With influences from William Ørbit to '80's pop and numerous collaborations with so many great artists, Corsten seems set to redefine trance and remixing, bringing them to the mainstream without all the commercial hype.
