Nord Lead Image

One of the most incredible new synths available. It re-defines analog synthesis in a modern synth. Using Virtual Sound Modeling technology the intricate nuances and character of analog synth sounds are beautifully recreated on this amazingly flexible synth.

First of all, it can sound like them all, an ARP 2600 or a Minimoog or a Roland Jupiter. This synth is polyphonic and multitimbral, it has a very flexible filter, LFO and Envelope control, portamento/legato, a great arpeggiator and analog-like dedicated knobs for quick and easy synthesizing!

Everything is MIDI'd up and controllable, there's a great pitch bender and a 'morphing' feature. A performance mode allows certain parameters to be stored with a sound such as unison or poly modes, legato and portamento. It is available as a Keyboard, a Rackmount module and as Virtual PC Software.

This synth is currently in use by lots of artists including Ken Ishii, The Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, Cirrus, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Deftones, Mouse on Mars, Maroon 5, Dr. Dre, Laurent Garnier, ATB, The Prodigy, Autechre, Astral Projection, Boom Boom Satellites, Fluke, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM and Underworld.

the problem is that in improving dsp code and keeping themselves in jobs the coders and developers improve out the machines qualities until it becomes a sterile # perfect # code box. They add more features but slowly improve the machines to death

why does a mk1 moog sound better than a later one ?
why does a p5 m2 sound better thena v3 ?
why does a roland jv880 blow away a xv5080 intone ?
why does a juno 60 eat a 106 ?
why does a virus b have a tone the ti cant get ?

because the trend of developers is one of perfecting and in doing this we remove the essence of a thing. Its why so much early dance music sounds amazing and so much new stuff sounds sterile and ' perfect ' but souless.

the mk2 original is NOT the same as the 2x which has ' improved ' convertors -= yeah that improve the imperfections and THE MAGIC out of the tone.......

How many times have you read this ?

nord1 is better than mk2 / 3

and

access virus a/b are better than c . . .c sounds better than ti ?

and you know what its true........i have worked with analogue synths for 20 years and hybrid synths and mixed over 50 tracks , played 100's of trance gigs and i am telling you these manufacturers need to wake up.

They do not all have the same sounds chips....

the mk2 had improved convertors and dsp code over the mk1 and ironed out ' imperfections ' clavia said. The mk2x took this one step further with the mk3 convertors , the wave well i think they must be using pc parts in that as it sounds like one.

do you think i would be saying this if it wasnt the case ? the did the same to the nord modular , the newer one sounds nice but doesnt have the quality of the old one.

regards comments on mk1 quality of sound vs mk2 vs mk3 i have owned 3 mk1's , 2 mk2 ' s and tried the mk3 for a good few hours and i really cannot see what clavia were or are thinking. They have definately done the classic ' lets use cheaper da/ad in this one and up the % or they have done the classic ' lets let the dsp programmer iron out all the imperfections ' = and make the newer model sound #' better ' spec wise - thinner to the ear and yeah worse to musicians and music lovers ears/.I dont get that trend as everyone in the dance scene and all musicians i ever spoke to said the same thing to me , the mk1 is magic , they then lost it slowly.

Does anyone know of a resource page where I can find patches and SYX files? I absolutely love this synth. It's been out in the wild for many years now, but can still hold its own. The filtering is aggressive, and easy, very easy to program. Still amazed at how I can sit down in front of this thing, after all these years, and still be entertained.

Absolutely breathtaking sounds, and warmth as others have stated. These are really versatile and easily lend themselves to almost any style of music. And they hold their value exceptionally well. Also used by Noise Unit, a side project of the Frontline Assmbly members. The only issue I have had with mine is the key contacts get dirty quickly and the keys will stop working. Gotta love the stone (yes, STONE) mod wheel!
