Clavia Nord Lead 2

Nord Lead 2 Image

The incredible Nord Lead synthesizer is taken a few steps further with the Nord Lead 2. It uses the same synthesis technology and sounds as good as the Nord Lead, but adds a few nice new touches. These features include a ring modulator, OSC 1 can sync with the white noise generator, increased LFO and arpeggiator waveforms and patterns, distortion in the squelchier punchier filter section and 4 individual outputs.

All the great sound, MIDI control and analog-like sound and design that made the Nord Lead famous return in this new and improved version. For those of you who do not need the 49 note velocity+aftertouch sensitive keyboard, there is a rack module version - the Nord Rack 2.

The Nord Lead 2 is the synthesizer of choice for many professionals including: The Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, Leftfield, Mike Oldfield, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM, Mirwais, Underworld, Jean Michel Jarre, Skinny Puppy, Depeche Mode, and A Guy Called Gerald.

Got a Nord Rack 2, Very solidly made synth, but what about the sounds? Initial mucking around with the presets it can sound a bit 'thin' and 'clean' especially if you've a real analogue or two to play along side, however once you start diving in and making your own sounds, particularly using features like the ring mod, fm, filter drive and so on, it comes into it's own. It's almost like having a super nice digital synth that takes half the time to program (compared to say, a TX81z or something). Big thumbs up from me, I'll never get rid of mine!

The nord leads are one of the most well builded synths:
it makes 0.0 % of noise , super clean sound!
you can put the channel of your mixer to max volume and you not perceive any noise, goodwork.

These look better than they sound. I owned one for 5 years, and I was less than impressed by it. I know many people love them, but it just seemed to lack something to me. I liked playing around with it and creating crazy sounds, but in the end I always ended up using my others synths in my songs. It's definitely hard to justify much of Nord line. I think for the price you could end up getting something much more diverse and better sounding IMO.

Omitting Hiromi Uehara from the list of who used this instrument is a big big omission! To me, even though she's a classical pianist by training, she is a premier Nord Lead 2 player. Or maybe BECAUSE she's classically trained she can actually play this thing like no other. Sort of like Chick Corea and Yamaha KX5 are like one, so is Hiromi and Nord Lead 2.

As my second real synth, I thought this thing was amazing..and I still think it is. Due to money problems I had to sell it, which broke my heart and I never thought I could move on...until I bought an old ROland analog synth. Yes! The nord lead has the right kind of parameters to mimic an analog synth, but NO it does not sound close to an analog synth.
So considering the price, I'm sort of sad that I paid that for it, considering what classic synths I could have got for the same price
