The Audity 2000 takes its name from the classic and one-and-only Audity, but that's about it. Although, the Audity 2000 has the same synthesis architecture as the Proteus, and the Proteus's synth chips were designed with the original Audity in mind. The Audity 2000 is a digital synth with an unprecedented 16 simultaneous arpeggiators. That's great for trance and techno! With an emphasis on electronic groove music, the Audity 2000 offers up many dance type sounds but with an uncomfortable digital "tinny" overtone. Its 12-pole digital resonant filter is nice...but it's no Moog.

The Audity 2000 features 64-voice polyphony with six analog outputs and a S/PDIF digital output. Patch editing is tedious, but it uses a Modular PatchCord architecture (probably inspired by the designs and concepts in the synth from which it takes its name) for extreme sound-sculpting capabilities. Originally released in 1998 with version 1.0 software, subsequent upgrades including a 2.0 version finally led to the inception of the Xtreme Lead-1. The Audity 2000 has been used by ATB and The Crystal Method.

It's a bugger to work with - scrolling through endless menus to get to that one parameter you need! Presets mostly [beep] and hardly scratch the surface of sonic possibilities. (Lazy programming!) Bottom line - be prepared to spend some time coaxing your sounds out of this thing.

WARNING: I bought mine new and the RAM battery died after only a few years, thereby erasing all my endless hours of tweaking. You can do a sys-ex dump into a sequencer tho' and I suggest you do so.

Quck programming tip: Each basic sound/patch is made up of 4 layers. You can copy and paste layers, tweak the copied layers (esp. panning) and you've got a wicked stereo synth! (NONE of the presets use this technique!)

I've always wanted a Proteus MPS keyboard, in fact I almost bought a few older proteus racks, but this one takes the cake. I've only had it for a few weeks & in that time I've programmed a few great patches using my Prophecy as a controller. In fact; the Audity picks up CC info from the Prophecy's edit knobs (cool) & I suspect that the Prophecy may have inspired this nice little rompler/VA. Thin & digital only describes some of the presets & not the whole of it's sonic potential. I'm looking for an editor & a place to get it upgraded from V.1 to V2.1.

I made a CD a few years ago called Miles to Miles in The Spirit of Miles Davis. I used the Audity for many different effects.From Pulsing LFO's to midi locked arp,this synth was everything I wanted it to be-The sound was great and I still have this synth and use it-

I have read this review for Audity 2000 and I certainly couldnt disagree more with this.Audity 2000 is capable of SUPER fat sounds ,and ,its filters are simply GREAT.To inform people its ROM sound set is designed by Rob Papen, google it & you will understand.Plus it unfair to compare Audity 2000 with XL1 because XL1 doesnt has all the 6 outputs and SPDIF .To get those you need an xpansion set or XL Turbo.It happens to have a Yamaha AN1x & even compared to it ,its not tinny in ANY case.And something you will like to know : to update Version 1.0x to version 2.0 ,a hardware need is needed .This hardware kit updates the OS then its removed.Version 2.0 can be updated using software only but those files arent available any more in official EMu's site.All in all ,a GREAT synth...
A final note : i think this site is great ,but BETTER reviewers are needed.

I have loved my proteus and all the upgrade chips for years, But there is something different about the Audity! Add any one of the bts upgrade chips and tear up new loops and custom arps, not old crappy store bought beats.....ps you want OS version 2.0 if its attainable.
