i don't know what its called, but, i'm wondering how the two of them sound linked in 16voice mode...does it work ok, or does the odd/even note allocation make it feel like less than 16 notes still?

sorry for the derail :)

i dont believe they communicate with eachother... just a convenient way to mount them since they are such a weird shape... i dunno why yamaha does this... also the TX7... what were they thinking? too bad the tx81z has such a clean sound compared to the FB01... otherwise i'd use that just cause it mounts normal

i have seen some other pictures of people mounting their FB01's w/ a less official method... not sure if its worth mounting if it looks like crap

i usually duct tape half rack units to whatever full rack item theyre sitting on; its not pretty but you cant really tell in a fully laden rack. that thing looks like it uses up a whole second space, which seems pretty wasteful for an fb01 of all things.

oh, they do have a way to work in a link mode. you can set one to receive all odd notes, and the other to receive all even notes, sort of a way to trick more notes out of it as lont as the same patch was selected of course :)

Half rack units just seemed to be popular in the late '80s and early '90s.

I have mine and I think its pretty cool. I am not a FM super fan but these are pretty cool. I have had Yamaha CX5M's since new and I dig the TX's and the Dx's somewhat I also used back in the day FB01's for a little wall of noise kinda thing. I just got offa ebay the 2 in a rack thing like the pic shows earlier in the thread. Was 70.00 dollars for the 2 FB's and the rack. Replace the one I sold years ago with 2. Thats a bargain.

I have a few 1/2 rack FX units. I have used the universal type mounts.
Here is one at MF:
Universal 1/2 rack mount kit
You have to figure where to mount the screws, usually on the bottom of the unit.
My live mixer/FX rack, with 5 of those 1/2 wide modules.
