Blofeld as a Drum Module, new SoundSet from Waldorf

Postby pjablon » Fri Nov 22, 2013 6:00 pm

Hi everybody.
I have a pleasure to present you the "Attack" sound-set for Waldorf Blofeld.

It is a set of 128 drum and percussion sounds, mainly modelled analogue drums, FM noises and Wavetable-generated sounds. It comes with 145 drum oriented samples for "sample & synthesis" fun and 7 multi-setups that work as a drum-sets.

It turns Blofeld into drum module with very advanced engine. Similar to the Tempest (VA + Samples) and in some respects even better (Wavetables, user samples, higher polyphony).

Multi-setups are MIDI mapped and ready for action.
Installation, MIDI implementation and the basis of drum synthesis is nicely laid out in the included manual.

Check this little demo:

The sound-set is available on Waldorf webpage:

Nord Beat 2 to be precise. It is an OKish sequencer. I like the fact that step buttons take as much space as possible and that it can sequence velocity in a smart way.
Also that you can edit different pattern than currently playing, and switch when you finish, is nice.
Other than that it's typical Nord: "We assume that you are a moron, so we don't give you any advanced options so you won't get confused"
The major fail is a lack of real time recording in the pad mode. It renders pads virtually useless.
No CC automation that would be sweet for Blofeld is sad.

who knew Nord was run by apple?
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...
