Help! I have one day to decide if I keep this Akai AX60!

Postby monk_volcano » Sun Nov 24, 2013 5:32 pm

Hello everyone.

I grabbed an AX60 at my local consignment music store for $225. A good price! I love the synth, it's very usable. However, there is one problem. The slider for envelope amount is non responsive! :( :( :(

So my question is, what is the likelihood that I pop this open and clean it off and it works? I don't have time to do it today because I have work and schoolwork to do..

I want to keep it, it seems like I should be able to fix it. Opinions/ideas?

Hell, even if you have to pay a tech $100 for part(s) and labor to fix it, it's a heck of a deal.

I say "keep it".

I also would keep it.

Hey, Rhino, you out there?
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

SCORE !!!

Yeah, try cleaning the slider. ALSO,
(EDIT)
If you mean the VCF envelope, then IC2 (a 4051 analog gate) may have failed.
If it's the VCA depth, then IC1.

That's better than "good." For reasons that I absolutely cannot understand, the prices for AX60s have gone through the roof recently (probably because I want one  ). Even though 99% of them have missing slider caps and are generally in so-so condition (or worse), they usually go for $650+ on the 'Bay. So, as others have said, even if you have to pay to get it fixed, it's still a great deal.
