I have a couple of old Rolands so the system-1 seemed not all that necessary. But I had a chance to play one at the store. It is very hands on. And it sounds really great. I'm becoming less interested in the re-hash old 101 synth plug-out idea and more intrigued by the system-1 engine. It has the DNA of the old synths but really has a special sound that holds its own. Bottom line it has some limitations but hasn't stopped me from having the most fun and it is very capable of great things.

The good:
- OSC2 CAN change pitch interval past 1 semitone.
- Full size keys. Only 2-oct keyboard not an issue.
- Portomento, Unison, LFO tempo synchronization. Well done.

The bad:
- how do I change the overall pitch bend amount? I can't?
- Can't seem to affect pitch envelope for just one of the oscillators at a time. Pitch envelope is 'global'.
- Yeah yeah only 8 memories. Get a computer already, no biggie.
- No modulation of 'Cross Mod' possible. Just use yer hands.
- No Unison detune knob. Oh well, the multi-waves 'color' knob sounds similar.

Waiting for the next "plug-out" before reviewing the System-1 :D

I bought one - thought it was an original sound, and definitely sits in the mix nicely with my other gear.

I had some interesting and gratifying results with those keys and that effects section last night. Played with another forum member last night. Our first jam session. It was wild, weird and fun.
