Yamaha ES8 vs. Roland D-550

Postby scottrod » Wed May 06, 2009 1:06 am

Was just noodling around on the rig and realized that the Yamaha voice Paradies (PRE4-D4) is the Yamaha shot at reproducing the D-50/550 patch Staccato Heaven (I-61). I mean it's obvious. A/B'ed the two of them on my JBL's.

FWIW, the D-550 blows the Yamaha away. I always loved the Paradies voice although I never found a use for it. To hear the real thing on the Roland makes me a bit sad; what I though was so vibrant and sparkling on the Yamaha has been stomped all over by something from the '80's. Something Yamaha finds important enough to install as a factory preset. From a competitor's synth.

I do believe I'm suddenly awakened. This old stuff is more than I realized; so clear, clean, and pure. I love the ES, but I'm beginning to open my eyes about these old synths. Wow. =D>

Not that this post means anything to anyone. But as a new guy here, it's nice to have a group of folks though that might actually understand wtf I'm talking about and actually give a shit.

And now, back to my regularly scheduled dopplebock.

I understand the power of the D-50 / 550 don't worry. It's sounds have more weight and magic than a thousand pure romplers that followed

oh btw maybe the 550 counts as 'clear' as I believe it's outputs were cleaned up a bit compared to the D-50, but on the d-50 part of it's DNA is it's noisy output
