Soulsby synthesizers Atmegatron vs. Cyclone Analogic TT-303

This one I would qualify as a sort of
"Clash of the $500 Niche Synthesizer Modules"

Yes, this is one of the better YT clips for this as of now. . .

A unique interface that just might work well combined with an intriguing sound make this one desirable IMHO. There have been other similar synths/sound modules produced before with this 8-bit sound in mind, so what makes this one so different...? Wood panels!!

Seriously though what sets it apart is Soulsby is also releasing future bits of firmware--I can't really call them 'updates' because they completely re-purpose the software. The first of which effectively changes the ATMegatron into a wavetable synth.

The ATMegatron comes in kit form as well if you want to save some money/are into DIY builds.

A 303 clone. That about sums it up....oh, obviously it's been updated with MIDI IN, sorry no DIN-sync. Most notable thing about this one is it's made to look almost exactly like the real thing.

I wouldnt really say they compare very well.

It seems like the Atmegatron is just another one of those noise boxes we all keep seeing, that doesn't really do anything musical in a straightforward way. Although it has more 'range' than the TT-303 in a lot of ways I guess. But the TT-303 has a sequencer and a fixed sound, so is quite different.

Well I bought the Cyclone TT-303 today so iv'e been trying it out synced to the Analog Rytm. First annoying thing iv'e noticed is that the unit slides all over the desk cause it just has crappy plastic feet, that is a BIG minus. The unit sounds okay but there's not enough SQUELCH. It's still an okay machine though but be warned it's cheap and chatty and slides all over the place.

7/10

You'll ruff up your desk though. You can buy little rubber feet in B&Q/wickes etc
I had to replace my Blofeld ones not so long ago.

Well i had some sticky rubber feet from a glass laptop stand i bought a few weeks ago so i'll use those. Your right B&Q have some too. I'll go there in future if i need to replace any on other synths later.
