new sequencer with storage or MC-500 and an Akai S1000!?

Postby richardb2000 » Tue Dec 29, 2009 4:03 am

Hi,

I have decided to move my sequencing of my music to the "hardware" side - i use all hardware synths and hardware effects + drum samples gathered from CD's etc (e.g. 808s, 707s etc), mainly because i enjoy the process of making music with hardware rather than a computer

Anyway i was hoping someone could help me out on a good purchase or two for someone who has always used computers before for this job. I've been having a look online and something like the Roland MC-500 takes my fancy although i assume if i go down this route i need some other hardware to store all my samples e.g. a Akai S1000. I was hoping however i could get an all in one unit however (mainly to save space)

I really don't need anything other than basic sequencing (editing, quantising etc) with enough disc space to store all my samples. Does anyone reccommend anything out there? Oh yes, and i definately want to keep it as cheap as possible - i have all my sounds, just need a sequencer that can hold my drum samples in an all in one unit! (if possible)!!

Thanks!
rich

sounds like you need an mpc 2000, 2000xl or an mpc-1000

get a used mpc 500. anything higher in the mpc range will be surplus to requirements if all you want it to do is sequence external gear and arrange drum samples. data is saved on flash cards (which are already filled with classic drum machine samples)

now is good timing as they seem to have dipped in price over the last few months

This thread answered a question I been stuck on for a while. MPC-1k seems like a winrar. :D
