- favorite synth? - i mostly use supersimple softies like Logic's ES1 or Cheezemachine (free 'stringer')... and make interesting things later in the chain.

- sequencer? - Logic Pro 6 is wonderful!

- sampler? - no, not really, only Battery with homemade samples.

- audio effects? - Pluggo for sounding great. Waves (yes I paid!) for sounding good.

- mastering plugins? - Waves, + 1 experienced mastering engineer.

- filters? - i don't use softfilt's for analogue style filtering (bleep bloiip), but I like Logic's Autofilter and the possibilities in Tobybear's Destructor, a bit/samplerate reducer with HP/LP added to it.

- favorite synth?
Supernova2, FS1r, SY77. VSTi: FM Heaven

- sequencer?
reViSiT (tho it's a tracker really, it's a VSTi, and currenly cubase sx3 is the host, tho I don't give a hoot for cubase.. it's just that I need a host)

- sampler?
VSampler 3 (VSTi), tho not as practical as Halion (streaming), it's great for sounddesign. For orchestral stuff I pick Halion, not that I'm a particular fan of it, but it was the least crap.. softsamplers urgenly need to mature and get rid of their own stupid little compact mousedriven interfaces.

- audio effects?
Waves

- mastering plugins?
Ozone, tho I don't really care. My best mastering plugins are my ears :P

favorite synth?
None yet, really - but I like FM7 a huge huge lot. I like Synth1, but it's not as intuitive as it should be; a GUI redesign could fix that. Blame it on my collection of hardware - I just love my Virus C.

sequencer?
I've got Cubase and Ableton and the latter is warming up very fast for me. I can't stand what's in FL Studio (tried it, not for me), and in Reason everything feels so tiny and cramped. Reason's ReDrum is however pretty excellent.

sampler?
Kontakt and Ableton's Impulse. I find it interesting that you prefer NN-XT over Kontakt - I can imagine the ease of use factor but Reason's photorealistic interface totally ruins it for me. Full screen for teh win ;).

audio effects?
Cubase's own RoomWorks - some great 'verbs in there. Kontakt's convolution reverbs - amazing and awesome and oh my god my poor CPU. George Yohng's W1 Limiter - really pumps the stuff up. Ableton's filterdelay - oooh yeah!

mastering plugins?
I like the results of T-Racks but still have to get something dedicated for the job. W1 Limiter is not multiband.

filters?
Cubase's own Tonic, but I don't use it often.

plugins/audio software that might not fit perfectly into the above categorys?
Wavelab lite has replaced Sound Forge as an editor here.

Arturia Prophet-V, hands down. It is supremely fat, has a lovely interface and is very easy to get both warm and crazy sounds from.

Synth -- Sytrus -- I can't program it for fuck, but it sure is fun to tweak converted dx7 patches. And, of course, it sounds awesome. Mostly I use Synth1 or Junatik when I want to program something.

Sampler -- the sampler in FL works fine for me. I'm addicted to the slicer.

Sequencer -- FL6 -- its easy on my tiny brain and it has the most usable piano roll anywhere.

FX -- Reaktor/kjerhaus/digitalfishphones. Would use OHMforce if I had the cash, wish I would have bought them when they were $29 a piece!

Mastering -- Reaktor Silver

special shout-out: Project 5-2, great tools for the money
