What's your system?

Postby oberheim » Thu Nov 30, 2006 5:22 pm

Magazines are always good at stirring up the old "mac vs pc" debate, usually with people getting overly precious about what they prefer. I'd just like to know what machine you use and what system just to see what the most popular is - We don't need to know why or how, just what you use. 8)

I use OS 9 and OS X on Macs.

upper end dual core pc
I went with the best I could afford
which was $1000 less than a mac with no peripherals(monitor ect).

both systems are ok by me though.

For web & disposables:
PIV 1.5Ghz 256RAM
For music:
AMD athlon X2 4200 Dual Core 1GB RAM : at least 5x faster than the Pentium. This system SCREAMS.

Both run Windows XP. No crash troubles since upping from Win98. I used to have a couple of Macs but the software & hardware availability is so limiting. I switched long ago and have not looked back!

If you are at all savvy with tech I recommend XP. Don't believe the hype. Macs aren't 'better' for anything once you know which buttons to push.

:D And I have more money left over for synthesizers!!! :D

heh I'd say it hasn't made much of a difference which one you went with since 2000/01
Though I do like the idea of a mac/pc dual boot cos I still like to play the odd game

In terms of my music computer, XP.

It'll be Vista about halfway through 2007, though. DirectX 10, here I come.

Mac OS 9.2.2 with my Korg OASYS PCI.

Thinking about a new Mac, tower most likely, but my savings plan keeps being siderailed by impulsive activity on the 'Bay and continued analog pedal lust.
