i remember seeing one or two wavetable VSTi's at http://hitsquad.com/smm
There are also some VSTi's that load up SoundFonts. There are also some physical modeling VSTi's.

Overall however, I don't think there are many wavetable/ROMpler VSTi's out there.

There are also VSTi's that load up .WAV samples and play them back.

Wusikstation isn't free but it's cheap and well worth it, imo.

Sampletank2 Free is not bad:

http://www.sampletank.com/Main.html?STFreeDwn

It can be installed as a VST plugin or DirectX, has lots of standard good rompler sounds. And it's free :D

Cheers, Graham

That's ok, it's still free. You just have to download it, fill in your details and email them, then they send you an activation code. Then you just activate it and start using it. They want your details simply so they can annoy you with latest product releases, etc. I've got it running here on my computer and it's not bad at all.
