I was looking for I think metasynth, I know i used to have it or atleast something like it.

cause I made images into sounds before, but of course lost the program and the name.

I was wondering about something similar to this as well. Is there somewhere to get the older metasynth for free now? (version 2.5 or 3.0) I am going to throw down the $600 soon for version 4 but are the older versions available for free in the mean time? (PC or Mac)

Metasynth has always been something you've had to purchase and it was exclusively a Mac app. (my favorite audio program btw)

i can't recall the name of the Windows program you're referring to..
i remember coming across it (or something like it) when reading about Aphex Twin, although i know he used Metasynth, but the person that uncovered it had a free Windows app...

i did a quick Google and found this link~
http://www.bastwood.com/aphex.php

and here's the pic

although this isn't much help since this is only a spectrogram... kind of the opposite of what you're going for. but another Google search turned up this~
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/metasynth.htm
it says its a "FREE Windows program for transforming any picture into a sound"

maybe that is what it was, I found that earlier but was at school so couldn't read it.

that picture is exactly what I was going for.

There's a free one that is called Coagula.

There also used to be a windows program called BMP2WAV.
It loaded up bitmaps .BMP and converted them to .WAV's and vice versa.

Here are some other programs that are similar:

BitMap Player and Sound 2D Warper are the ones you want.

You might wanna give Camel Audio's Cameleon 5000 a spin as well - interesting additive synth with lots of morphing capabilities and the ability to use images as "oscillators".
