Postby Hugo76 » Fri Jun 14, 2013 12:31 am

Release info:
----------------
Waldorf’s have released Nave – their next-generation Wavetable Synthesiser for the iPad with a sound engine that includes two novel Wavetable oscillators that is said to leave every previous attempt in wavetable synthesis far behind!

Nave was developed by Waldorf’s chief engineer Stefan Stenzel and Rolf Wöhrmann (of NLog fame), and comes complete with all factory Wavetables from Microwave, Wave and Blofeld as well as many new ones that make extensive use of the enhanced possibilities. It also ships with over 500 presets from Richard Devine, Sacha Dikiciyan (Sonic Mayhem), Laurence Rapaccioli (Arksun), David Boldini (7 Skies) and Fletcher Kaufman (Sunsine Audio)!

Nave is available in the App Store for a five-day special introductory price of €10.99 EUR/$11.99 USD (regular price will be €17.99 EUR/$19.99 USD). iOS 6 or later is required.

I have a hard time believing you are going to be using an iPad. It doesn't seem to match your sensibilities. So may ask, in a non-interviewing way, how far do you plan to take the Nave?
Are you going to use it in your live set up or in the studio and do you plan on releasing any music with the Nave featured? As a modular and A4 dude, I am very surprised you'd take anything outside of that box seriously-

And seeing that you have a near-prefect (I'd assume by the amount of tools at your disposal) set up, why look at iPad apps? This must also mean that you already use VST instruments. But I don't remember you being involved with VST discussions unless it's about the underlying technology or the OS.

Sorry to pick your brain, but I am surprised you have any interest. I tried to even imagine that maybe you owned some earlier hardware unit and this is about nostalgia.

I mean, goodness man, are you even aware of the KORG iPad apps?

Sounds great Ned!! Did you use presets for that or design your own sounds?

I really need to get an iPad.

I'm glad there's such an expert on my sensibilities here.

I use an iPad, it's fun. I have the ims20 app and borderlands and samplr and some others, beats playing plants vs zombies. Sometimes.

I use softsynths sometimes, depends what I feel like using and the sounds I want to make. I'm not snobby about digital at all, my two poly synths are an ultra nova and nord modular.

I used mostly Richard Devine's presets. I will be working from scratch today, as I really want to understand what this baby can do...

Going to try this one out. I love Waldorf's products, both soft and hardware delivers.

This is a nice video, how to make a wavetable sound from scratch/init in 2 minutes

Insanely cool app. Hope they implement a programmable arp, though

I have to admit I don't understand a thing of that Wave view but it looks damn cool. It's like one of those fancy mediaplayer effects.

I like how you can type in a sentence and create a wavetable from it, then do whatever the synth lets you do, like distort it, or anything. Almost like a vocoder only you don't have to continually speak into it.

Shame I've never heard of any of the artists who created the presets..then they might have meant something. I barely know that Richard Devine is a wellknown trance producer.

Pretty cool app. I sold my Blofeld quite a while back and miss it from time to time. This pretty much fills that void.

They don't always use standard naming conventions but it's pretty easy to figure out once you have it in our hands.

Yeah I'm getting my head around it, I own a Blofeld (that is more or less never being used) so I just had to get my footing. Still can't make anything close to those presets, I'm usually just scanning wavetables, applying effects and make the speech synthesizer say rude things.

I've also been playing alot with the Oscillator in unison and various filter drives, and the mixer. I like the looping envelopes too.
