Virsyn: Cube Synth for iPad released

Postby griffin avid » Mon Oct 07, 2013 11:59 am

This was one of my favorite synths- early in the VST thing. I remember picking up a boxed version in one of those Sam Ash clearance bins. I noodled forever with that X-Files preset. Anyhow I got a note that it's now on iPad.
Definitely worth a look.

==========================
Cube Synth - Spectral Morphing Additive Synthesis

Cube Synth is a groundbreaking new iPad synthesizer giving you the power and flexibility of additive synthesis together with easy editing and morphing capabilities. Macro parameters allow you to control this beast with unequalled ease.

Intelligent sound morphing capabilities enables you to easily create complex evolving sound scapes, vocal phrases or stunning rhythms simply by choosing up to four sound sources from a predefined set.

Then add one of the predefined envelopes and a unique, complex sound preset containing thousands of parameters is created! If you want to dive deeper into the inner secrets of this synthesis monster you can manipulate each parameter individually to get precise control over the sound. A number of high level parameters such as Brightness and Harmonic spread control hundreds of synthesis parameters in a way modelled after the inner workings of natural instruments.

Cube Synth gives you also a new method of getting randomly generated sound patches in a way you never experienced before: roll the dice!

Every single try gives you a new unique sound patch, really every try, promised…

Yeah, it definately looks cool. I do think, however, that their excellent Addictive Synth probably is better for my personal needs, so I think I'll stick with that for the time being.
Do you think it's still worth picking up, Griffin? Any special type of sounds it excells at?

Oh yes, I think it's a great addition. Erm no pun intended.
Mostly I think it excels as sound effect and weird tones.
I wouldn't imagine thinking about the staple sounds like bass, lead and such, but I think it'd be great as an extra layering to add some interest to pads.
Spacey sounds. That's what strikes me as it's core strength.

Just picked it up and gave it a test run.
There's a slight curve towards twangy-tine and yeah, it's a beast for other-worldly-retro-future-soundFX-ed-ness
The randomizer is pretty berserk.

The graphic display and touch screen are a perfect match.
I admit, I'd like the interface better that 80% of the other soft synths.
The graphics are spread enough and large enough to tweak without it feeling like a dexterity test.
I can't imagine anyone owning this and not creating new and interesting sounds.
I'm putting this in the category of finisher. I wouldn't reach for the iPad Cube to start off a track, but I could see it being used whenever you get stuck for a place to go or to freshen up a motif you're repeating.

You all do know that Cube has been out for many years, right? Not on the 'i' platform specifically, but I've owned Cube for at least 6 years now... (give or take a year for senility)

Not to say it's not a marvelous synth, because it is -- but Virsyn has had this thing out for a long time now.

Also, one would be at fault if they didn't check out the other synths from Virsyn, post-haste. Amazingly deep and awesome at producing NOT analogue-sounding timbres.

Brilliant stuff.

Not only that, but I was one of those guys anxiously awaiting Cantor and thinking it might be the product I've envisioned after the Yamaha Vocaloid disappointments. I'd always drool over their new products, but I always felt they were a little too pricey for the risk.
