EPS 16+ disks and other things

Postby Shleed » Sat Aug 24, 2013 8:24 am

I recently obtained an EPS 16+ for a fair price, which came with all the add ons - memory expansion, flashbank, SCSI mod etc. It came with no disks, but the OS was on the flashbank. Ordered an OS disk just in case though. Everything works fine except the aftertouch, which is a bit inconsistent on various keys. Probably just needs cleaning up.

I have a few questions regarding it though, since a lot of websites regarding the 16+ have been closed down:
What is the best place to buy or download sound disks? It didn't come with any.
Would I be able to use my Amiga 1200 to make sound disks since it can read DD disks? I was pondering on this if I can't get my HxC to convert disk images.
What's the best device to use with it via SCSI?

a SCSI CF card reader maybe?

I dont think there are any decent Amiga disk tools still available for writing EPS disks.

Thinking of a SCSI CF reader myself, although apparently the 16+ is picky with which SCSI device it plays nicely with.

I recommend syntaur...Love these guys..Sam Mims is awesomE!..

from their website:

"Syntaur was created in 1988 as a third-party developer of sounds for Ensoniq keyboards. The company quickly gained a reputation for expert programming and top-notch customer service, and soon became the world's largest source of sounds and accessories for Ensoniq keyboards. Through exclusive licensing arrangements with Ensoniq, Syntaur has kept the factory sound libraries for long-discontinued keyboards available. In fact, we have in stock virtually every library that Ensoniq has created - back to the very first Mirage disks. And all of our sound disks carry a lifetime guarantee - we'll replace a floppy disk four years from now, even if your dog chews it.
In addition to our own products, we have been contracted by both Ensoniq and Korg to develop many of the on-board factory sounds when they have created new keyboards. You've heard our sounds in the:

Ensoniq ASR-10 and ASR-88
Ensoniq E-Prime
Ensoniq KT-76 and KT-88
Ensoniq TS-10 and TS-12
Ensoniq Soundscape PC Sound Card
Korg Triton
Korg Triton Expansion Boards
Korg TR Rack "

http://www.syntaur.com

I have an ASR-10 rack which I bought an SCSI Hard Drive/CD-ROM combo from and it works perfect!

...I got it on Ebay from SynthPlus ...I have bought other stuff from this guy, and he is awesomE and really knows his ensoniq stuff as well!

Kinda cautious when ordering stuff outside the EU due to being caught with import tax etc before. I can't find a website that sells such stuff within Europe or any place that can offer disk images to download/buy.

Got the OS disk, now to find how to rip it to HFE to work with the HxC interface.

Thinking of going the HxC route for sounds, and found a website that offers downloads. Have to figure out on how to convert them too.

If you join this group, you'll find a dedicated group of eps-16 enthusiasts.

I'll make sure you get some sounds and hooked up with a good scsi.

I just joined that group, and apparently it was shut down because of some "stalker"? Weird and unfortunate...

The HxC is supposed to recognize *.EDE and *.GKH file formats. I'm guessing you just use the convert function in the HxC software and it does it. (I convert ImageDisk *.IMD files that way.)

i've been wanting an ensoniq sampler (anywhere from eps classic to asr-10) but the output expansions seem VERY rare, almost never on ebay or anywhere else.

It doesn't have an output expansion, although I don't intend to use it for major sampler use.

I may look for a way to interface a CF card reader instead, if that's possible. I know that was possible with my previous Akai S2000.

At one point, I was able to find a few options for scsi, or cf card readers. Seems that most of those sites are gone. No one cares about the poor EPS16 anymore. SCSI for samplers.com is gone as well.
