why do people want kurzweil floppy sample disks?

Postby Jonahs » Wed Apr 30, 2014 4:33 pm

i picked up a k2000 in a trade and they tossed in the "analog collection" sound set. i had just left them sitting in the closet and was probably going to toss them (i've been busy just messing with vast, so i haven't had time really to try loading them up and i've never really been one to use sample libraries either)

but then while searching for the sampling upgrade on the k2000 i saw that people were asking for (and getting) way more cash than i expected for these and other kurzweil samples.

could someone explain why?

Because the samples sound really good?
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

I got rid of my 3.5 disk drive on my k2600s and put in a multi drive that reads 5 or 6 different kind of memory cards, I had to disconnect my 2 gig hard drive though and now that I am typing this I realized I should of pulled it out to sell it, I have a 8 gig card that's separated into 4, 2 gig partitions, (for some reason Kurzweil put a 2 gig cap on their synths back then, but like I did with the partition theres ways around that) two of the two gigs were filled with sounds from the ebay seller and I filled a 3rd with the hard drive on my k2600 and the 4th I am filling up with stuff from cd disks

haha fair enough. guess i'll have to try them. i actually am kinda curious if/how kurzweil pulled off the "vintage analog". wonder if they sample the filter response of the synth itself or try to do it with the filters on the k2000.

Off topic, but the 2GB maximum disk size thing is an issue with 16bit file systems rather than an arbitrary thing Kurzweil did. :thumbleft:
