Moog Little/Slim Phatty oscillator sync question

Postby ranzee » Mon Jun 23, 2014 10:58 am

I've setup my Slim Phatty as follows:

Modulation:
LFO RATE: Full
Source: Filt Env
Amount: Full
Destination: Pitch

Oscillators:
Wave: both to Pulse
Octave: both the same
1+2 Sync: ON

Filter:
Cutoff: Full
Res: Off

the rest probably doesn't matter so much:

KB: Off
EG: Full
O.L.: Off

Envelope Generators:
Volume:
A: Off
D: Off
S: Full
R: Off
Filter:
A: Off
D: Off
S: Off
R: Full

Here's my question

playing this adjusting the Oscillator Frequency from about 4 O'clock to 12 O'clock - I get a nice phasing sound

is there a way I can get the envelope to generate this for me?

or do I need to us CV inputs to achieve this?

As you are already using the Filter Envelope as a Mod Source I don't think there is any way to execute this further modulation within the Moog alone, you could probably manage to set up some kind of MIDI CC control over the Osc Frequency if you are working with some kind of DAW but beyond that I'm not sure if it is possible. I'm not sure if you could execute this with CV either because it looks as if the CV input for Pitch will alter both Oscillators and from what I can make out the sound you are after requires the modulation of the Pitch on Osc 2 alone.... Correct me if I am mistaken.

I also have a Slim Phatty and my only major complaint about it is not being able to route the Modulation to more than one destination, I'm certain it couldn't be that difficult technically to have the LFO modulate the Pitch and Filter at the same time, but alas.

actually since I posted this I've managed to achieve what I wanted - here's my settings:

Oscillators:

1-2 Sync On
1:
Wave: Square (65-70% or 2 O'clock)
Level: Full
2:
Freq: 55% or ~ 1 O'Clock
Wave: Square ( 65-70% or 2 O'Clock)
Level: 55% or ~ 1 O'Clock

Filter
Cutoff: 60% or 2 O'clock
Res: 0% (Off)
KB: Full
EG: Full
OL: Off

Envelopes
Vol: A: 0 D: 0 S: Full R: Full
Filter: A: 0 D: 0 S: Full R: 60% 2O'Clock

Modulation:
LFO Rate: Full
Source: Filt Env
Amount: Full
Dest: OSC2

Set the mod wheel to desired pitch
