still looking for help finding a sci-fi short story

Postby rhino » Tue Jul 08, 2014 2:53 am

Still looking.
Short story from 50s-60s
War kills off all humans
Fighting machines are old and failing
Try to reproduce selves and fail
1) robots build body and 'brain' , but trying to solder the brain in place, they cause a short circuit and it melts
2) robot tries to touch a butterfly and crushes it

I have spent hours on the net searching and posting on Sci-Fi sites with no luck.
As I recall, it was in a large anthology-type book. Probably read this in the very early 1960's.

Thanks

There are 29 short stories in this anthology book. Could it be the one you mentioned and possibly contain the story you're looking for?

The only other story that seems remotely close to what you're after is:

Full Circle (1952) by H.B Hickey. <Perfect robots are building a human (after they effectively exterminated humans) all over again...>

Not much else other I could find other than the title of the stories.

Are you familiar with this book?

Mortal Engines / The Cyberiad by Lem?
