Hopefully shows a side of this synth you've not heard elsewhere. It really is a stunningly flexible piece of kit.

Demo of Emulator II sounds made up mainly from the original EMU and OMI CD libraries:

Still great quality despite the age IMO.

The ARP Omni-2 is a string synth primarily but you can brew up some quite nice sounds from it's basic synth section too. The nice thing about the Omni is that it's paraphonic in other words it has 100% polyphony - albeit through one envelope but definetely a rather nice filter!

Here are a few random notes on my Omni-2 sounding almost french horn like at times....

Having restored this beasty I want to retro fit it with MIDI (only note on/off) using a Doepfer MTC-64 bus bar interface.

UPDATE: After much tinkering my Omni-2 is now MIDI retrofitted :)

Jupiter 4 presets

Postby nathanscribe » Sun Apr 12, 2009 11:11 pm

Carey, that midimini demo was sheer gold!

Anyway, here's a quick & dirty demo of the Jupiter 4. It's all here: all 10 presets, a touch of outboard reverb, Boss DR-55 drums, and shocking playing. But that's my style. Enjoy, but don't say I didn't warn you.

I've just found an old recording of mine I made when I first got my beloved Wavestation A/D. The following is a rough improvisation made using just the A/D in a single take by walking through layered voices within a single patch. Despite it being a little rough I'm still wondering how I managed to pull this one off without descending into chaos! (and no it's not tape hiss - sadly the A/D can be a little noisy... it's off one of my old DAT masters)

Tinkering in the studio today I finally got round to revisiting my old TX802 and once again the magic of FM has impressed me! Maybe it's just me because I'm still in amazed how something like this can be synthesized from thin air. I really like some of the factory patches in this old beast. It is a real shame FM got itself a bad name - PCs fitted with junky 4OP generators didn't help. It's clearly a very powerful form of synthesis which demands more respect. At times where FM might lack realism it's made up for in buckets with controlability and modulation. This is a very rough improvisation using factory patch INT16 <strings>:

Finally here is a typical thick layered choir sample from my recently restored Emulator II. There is something really quite special about the sound of this beast - almost like sonic chocolate! In this case I've just played chords in case some want to sample the results:

Here is a quick warts and all demo of the Microwave I - please note all the aliasing, distortion and popping is for free :)

Loved the Midimini and Emulator II Demos! I still would like an EII one of these days. It's my favorite sampler.

The EII sounds truly wonderful, JMP...and what a great looking machine it is!

Cheers Micke. I think it looks ace too (probably from gazing at them for so long back in the 80's) but the wife thinks it's butt ugly.. :? Love it or hate I think. :)
