Looking for my perfect sound

Postby Pretty orange » Sat May 10, 2014 4:01 pm

Hello everyone!
It is the post of my favorite music (sorry for that) - while listening it more carefully it turned out that all of it contains similar synth sound (hate the idea thats it is so easy to catch me with the sinle sound but still)
I was trying to clear out how are they called (tried Boss Bass Synth, Korg, Roland) but none of it seems to match... Would you mind giving me a hand with naming that sounds?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2bofwwzV_g Depeche Mode The dead of night (intro till 40th second)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eh-OyFT990s Kanye West New Slaves (intro)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFwQP86BRs NIN Closer (from 21st second)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5YWONGI_iI Tori Amos, Bjork, PJ Harvey - dissolved by the water (from the 8th second)
Would really grateful for help and all kind of songs with the same enigmatic sound!

Thanks!!!

I think the sound you're looking to identify is the feedback/ overdrive/ fuzzy distortion sound. Maybe from a mic'd guitar amp? To my ears the base sounds in the clips sound like they come from different sources, but luckily there are many, many ways to give your source of choice an interesting distorted/overdrive effect. You could try running your sounds through a distorted guitar amp or amp sim, or even just play around with a gain knob on your DAW / mixer/ etc. to jettison your signals into distortion country.
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...
