Yamaha FS1R

Postby DIGITAL SCREAMS » Fri Jul 06, 2007 9:43 pm

I just picked up a mint FS1R off ebay. I want to use it primarily as an FM preset machine and expanded DX7.

I will not be bothering to program my own patches.....just load up my favourite DX sounds and tweak them abit.

Any users in here? Opinons from a purely preset tweaking perspective?

Cheers

Lucky boy! It is truly an amazing synth!

You don't have to load the DX presets. The FS1R includes, in its 1400 preset voices bank, the most famous TX and DX sounds.

I got mine when it was released. I always used it from a "preset tweaking perspective", and it's fun! Just by adjusting the effects, changing the voices of a performance, slowing down/reversing the formant sequence, or using the filter you can create a wide range of sounds. By the way, the FS1R has the same filter as the AN1X. It gives a much warmer and punchier sound than the old DX7.

If anyone wants mine, I'm open to any offer. It's in perfect condition.

if I do the factory initialise procedure will it default to all the original facotry presets that it shipped with?

Do you get the famous slap bass and epiano dx7 sound?

There're so many voices inside that it's hardly worth it to make them yourself. Dozens of pianos, guitars, basses, brass, bells, etc.

I paid for it today, so hopefully I receive it next week sometime. Ive listened to a couple of demo mp3's. I think ill be very happy with the FS1R. I wanted a FM/DX preset machine that has a bit of tweakability. I love ambient FM pads, FM bass and leads.

Go here.... http://www.hollowsun.com/cds/fs1r_page.html and click on audio demo towards bottom. It open up a 5 min demo....

Thankyou! By the looks of it...this is the best one for windows xp.

Cheers!

The more I hear about the FS1R, the more I wonder how well it would sit next to a V-Synth...

(in the unique category)

Oh, there's nothing wrong with preset tweaking. If it gets you the sound you want, then use it.

The manual is on absolute " dry " mode as if they were pissed to even describe controls :?
Bank A and B ( 128 presets each ) explore the FS1R features ( more or less ) , the other banks are ports from the other synths ( using 6 ops ) and monotimbral so you have to figure ( browse output levels ) the operators that are off depending of algos.
Personnally I kind of fell asleep while browsing a lot of samey presets ...
Even with the great and free editor there are so much layers and ( unnecessary / not very potent ? ) controls that you spend a massive lot of time to move the sound, because you have to browse a lot to figure the key parameters on a given preset.
I've never owned a DX7 but *only* based on the sound files I downloaded, DX7 sounds more warm so not sure you can find exact matches if you crave for them.

I like it but I'll never love it.

Look at this way: If he hadn't been bidding for it, you'd have got it for less...

DS, can I ask what the going rate is these days?

I bought one a couple of years ago and it's one of my favourite boxes now. Enjoy.

If it's that great, why are you selling it? Are you replacing with it FM8?

I had chase a FS1r for the last 8 months.
I made a database of prices, conditions and country.

I saw one sold buy 550 Euros I lost one (due to not have a computer at that time  ) for £165 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

and buy one for £228.00 .
the actual price are from 350 Euros to 450 Euros DS made a good buy.

And I notice that the prices are going to fall in the last months.
