If you dig around there are samples of FM7 that use DX200 patches.

To get the vibe of the hardware download the FM7/FM8 demo - (or buy it - once mapped to a good controller it's an awesome softsynth - I have a ton of controllers mapped to my p08. ) The DX200 doesn't really offer that many in-depth controls. The software ended up being MORE fun to use than the hardware in this case.

The DX does have cute drums though....

- I ended up passing mine along and am just using the VST and am very satisfied.

Can't find anything on Yamaha's site. I'd rather hear samples recorded straight out of the DX200... not software or other DX samples. I was hoping someone who owns it maybe had something.

There's a few videos up on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dx200+yamaha&search=Search

It's pretty safe to say if you like what you see on the videos, you'll be ok.
I bought mine off the demos seen and the opinions gathered up here.
I've been pretty impressed so far. It's a mini DX7 with filters, effects and a GUI. I hate groovebox functionality and I never use that, I can't really offer any opinion besides "The drums aren't worth writing home about."
THIS IS GOOD....

it's midi sysex though, I wish it was USB based so I wouldn't tie up a midi controller when I'm working on sound creation. Also there's questionable support on the software.
(meaning it kinda works on XP, and you have to look for the download.. Yamaha no longer supports it)

but it's worth it.

DX200 demos here.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

If I remember, I'll shoot something to MP3 tonight. I'll record it dry and solo.
Really you're just going to hear a DX7 with a filter.
-oh, the free EG's are cool too.

It barely has support for XP.
When I got mine a few weeks ago the guy didn't include the software. I poked around for a while on the Yamaha site and found some of the sw, but not all the required pieces (XGworks)
I sent a mail to Yamaha TS....
Mackenzie,

unfortunately the XG works is discontinued, you can call parts to see if there is a CD available for the DX200 @ 888-892-6242

Thank you,

hey there, I reloaded my windows machine and I don't have the software to load for xgworks for my dx200.
I looked for a download, but it looks like you only have patches for xgworks. however, I found the drivers specific to the dx200. -those complained of my missing xgworks, as did the 'lite' patch.
am I looking in the wrong place?

thx!

Eventually I found the sw from the yahoo group.

It's worth the hassle to get the software working because the synth has so much more to offer than the front panel.. Although...I haven't tried, but in theory you might be able to get a sysex editor for a DX7 to work. Things like free-egs and filter/effects may be whitespaces for the patches, but the general theory should be transparent.
Hopefully the nerds of world will program some shareware for it... it could happen... it worked for the POS cs1-x... and that was crap.

I wondered the same thing, when I read the title, Tallow. But, upon reading the thread, I realized (hopefully correctly) that it was actually examples of DX200 sounds that the poster was seeking. So, I have modified the thread title to reflect such.

If I am incorrect, then please tell me JS, so that I can change the title back and move the thread to SAMPLERS.
