Nice Yamaha DX21 Demo

Postby Italo_DX » Mon May 19, 2008 9:35 pm

Hello again, it's been a while since I've posted here.

I used an old SoundBlaster MIDI sound card I found in the garbage to control my DX21! I came up with this little demo to showcase the hidden power of this oft-overlooked FM synth. All the patches are self-programmed except for the xylosnare at the beginning (a great preset IMO).

I used Anvil Studio, Cool Edit Pro, iDrum and GarageBand to make this demo.

Nice demo (:

The DX21 is great. I had much fun with mine. Programmed many nice sounds too. I sold it after I got hold of a TX7, but I miss it.

Nice tune! do you have any interesting sysex sound patches you would be willing to share?

I'm starting to really like my DX-21 after hating it for years. I still can't program worth crap but I sure have learned how to load patches in! LOL

Now it sounds fun and interesting.

8) ! Fun little demo, that. Sounds like incidental music from an 80s kids' film. Nice job. It makes me, too, want to dig out my TX81Z and make sounds with it again... in fact, I switched it on last week for the first time in a couple of years and ran through the presets. Some are better than I remember. I never got the hang of programming though.

I do remember there being a book published by Amsco or someone, filled wiith DX patches to program in. I copied some of them down, but left others out, after going through the whole book. Mad. This was about thirteen years ago. I saw that book on ebay recently but didn't bid. Think it went for ten or twenty quid.

I'll see if I can get SysEx to work, I've just been programming all of my patches up to this point.
