PAiA Fatman

Postby Blackie1 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 4:28 am

I'm considering this synth, just got an offer for one being sold. I've looked up the specs and found some stuff about it, seems like it could work. I just need some first hand opinions of it. Anyone here own one? If so, what do you think? Not sure if it'll be too limiting, since there's only one wave type and stuff, but what do you think?

There are many reviews online. And on the Paia website, you've got some mods to add features to it.

The biggest downside to the Fatman is there is no LFO. When it was designed, the Roland TB-303 (which has no LFO) was all the rage and the Fatman was aimed at that market.

If you do buy it make sure you get all the documentation that came with it.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Alright, thanks. No LFO isn't too good. But there are mods to put one in, right?

I've read a lot of reviews, everyone says good things.

The other thing to keep in mind is all PAiA synths are sold as kits, which means the build quality can range from good to awful depending on who built it. I'd be a bit leery of buying a used one without inspecting in in person, unless it was cheap, or the person who built it has a good reputation.
Switches, knobs, buttons, LEDs, LCD screens, monitors, keys, mice, jacks, sockets. Now two joysticks!
