HELP: Vermona DRM1, some sounds not panning

Postby Z » Fri Oct 31, 2008 10:15 pm

I pickd up a used DRM1 mkiii on the 'bay and just started messing with it. Some of the sounds are pannig correctly and others are staying at center regardless of how I turn the pan knobs. I made a video and upped it to YT. You'll have to click on the link to hear it in stereo (why can't the videos default to stereo without adding &fmt=18 ?).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmCcchTPdQY&fmt=18

Also, the clap channel seems to have a lower output than other sounds. Any ideas?

Damn... too bad you didn't buy mine! (was asking same price too). :?

Anyways, all sounds should pan. And the clap is a little quieter than the other sounds (mainly because of it's sound generation method I would say), but not dramatically.

I've traded with that seller before (both ways) and he said he'd take it back for full refund since he advertised it as 100% operational. It was a pretty good price ($650 shipped), I'd like to keep it if you think it's an easy fix. Maybe it's just bed or dirty pots.

Good to know about the clap channel. If I do take it to a tech to fix the pan pots, I wonder if there's a way to boost the clap channel whilst under the hood...

Well, I really can't comment on how easy it is to fix... but yeah, I would imagine there are some pots in there that could be tweaked. I was selling mine for $650 plus shipping, so if you can return it to him for a refund, I would imagine that would be cheaper than trying to get a tech to fix it

Try to turn the noise knob all the way up and add clap until it's sounds right.

You have to add &fmt=18 after the URL for stereo. Too bad it does not default to stereo.

Got your message about the clap volume. I sent the unit back to the seller and have a "pending" refund with PayPal. Going to buy Sir Ruff's as soon as the money gets back into my account.

Thank you for your input. I will try using the 909's main accent to see how that affects the output. I saw you have both a 909 & DRM1 in your rig. Is that how you trigger your DRM1?

No , I trigger everything via midi from cubase. I've just been fiddling around today seeing how close to an 808 I could get with the vermona and was having the same problem with the top 3 sounds being really loud and the rest very quiet.

Did it pan via headphones at all ?

I reckon it's something silly at manufacture where they've accidently wired the switch that cuts the balance once something is inserted into the direct out jack.

(by the way , its great having the extra sounds like the 808 style kick over the 909 kit)

It did not pan through headpone either. Maybe something got bumped during shipping. I'm glad the seller was cool about it.

I've got an 808, also. Fired it up today for the 1st time in a while. It needs new switches, though. I've got the Kenton MIDI kit installed on it and used to trigger it via MIDI (full 0-127 velocity response).

It will be nice to have a true "drum synth" to fill in the gaps of what the 808/909/SDSV have.

Sorry, I didn't have the DRM1 long enough to try to make such comparisons. Of course the DRM1 has more options for sound sculpting, so I'm more interested in making ofther sounds that 808/909/SDSV are not capable of. Maybe when I get Sir Ruff's, I can make a video comparison of the 808/DRM1.
