I recently programmed a synth sound that could be described as a string ensemble. Not the sound of a string machine, but the sound of a group of strings - synthy of course. You might say it has the sound of a "strings" waveform in a ROMpler, but without the artifacts of too-short looping and/or dynamic compression such that it is smoothed-out and semi-lifeless.

The synth patch makes use of PWM for animation within the timbre. For thickness and the ensemble tone, I layered detuned oscs together.

I made a total of 21 samples from C1-C6, sampling every minor third, i.e., C - D# - F# - A, at 44.1KHz, 16-bits depth, in mono. This resulted in a sample set that was ~16MB in size - perhaps a little larger. If so, not using the C6 sample would be the easiest solution for a 16MB sampler.

The files are named as such:

nn_keynameoct.wav

where nn is the MIDI note number for key assignment (36-96), keyname is C, D#, F#, or A, and oct is the octave of the sample (1-6).

And yea, I am sharing them with you. :) Download them here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/198978380/aeon_strings.zip

You will need to assign these samples to a keymap and assign filter and amplitude envelopes so they properly play as "strings" would. Yea indeed, there is some programming work involved, minimal as it might be. That said, I hope you enjoy these samples and can put them to good use in your music.

I recently programmed a synth sound that could be described as an interpretation of the original Fairlight "arr1," or "sararr" sample - the classic female "ahh" with breath noise.

The sound is entirely generated via physical modeling synthesis - no samples were used in its creation. The environment used was the DSP of the Korg OASYS PCI.

My sound has less breath noise, and more glottal grit - but as I said, it is meant to be an interpretation of the original, not an emulation.

I prepared a total of two samples, both at 44.1KHz, 16-bits depth, in mono. Both are pitched at C4. One is longer, to achieve a less-noticeable loop, whereas the other is purposefully shorter, with a clickless, but noticeable overall short-loop. This is to achieve some of the timbral charm of the original and its artifacts.

Aside from some gentle compression, no effects processing was used in the creation of these samples. They are absolutely dry and raw.

Download them here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/234812391/aeon_fairvoxmodel.zip

The files within the .zip are looped AIFFs.

You will need to assign the sample to a keymap and assign filter and amplitude envelopes so they play as you want them to.

I hope you enjoy this sample and can put it to good use in your music.

cheers,
Ian

Hi all!

I am new here (first post and all that) but if I may be so bold as to steer you towards hollowsun.com for a good few freebies in a variety of formats.

Enjoy!

I've recently put together a site containing free samples. There are a couple of sounds from the Waldorf Microwave, but for the most part it's analogue modular sounds, multi-sampled for polyphony.

All samples are available in EXS24 and soundfont formats (see the separate post for sf's). However, since the new version of autosampler was released, all new samples will be in EXS24, Kontact and Reason format.

I'll been updating the site on a pretty regular basis, in fact I plan to add some samples of the DSI Tetra and Siel Orchestra 2 once I get my studio put back together.

I've recently started making multisamples of my vintage samplers in action - these are taken directly from the instrument's mix outputs and hence their full audio path is present in all their glory! (ie. how it should be!!)

The 4th sample was made using a DIY tube osciallator I designed.

The Following are in Kontakt 3.5 Format:

Emulator II - Bosendorfer Piano:

Emulator II - Marcato Strings:

Sequential Prophet 2002 Guitar Preset:

My DIY Tube Oscillator - sampled:

Enjoy!

Epic tanpura (drone) samples. Probably all the tanpura/shruti/harmonium samples you'll ever need.
