Yamaha CS70M price check

Postby pulse_divider » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:36 pm

I haven't seen a Yamaha CS70m for sale for quite awhile so I guess there's no such thing as a current going rate but...
has anyone been watching these over the last couple of years? Any reports on what they've sold for? Ballpark ranges are fine.
I've been out of the synth-buying loop for a bit and am trying to gauge whether it would be worth trying to start a search for one.
Thanks.

according to amazona.de ( a website that tracks german ebay listings) the last cs70m went for 781 euros in June this year. A great price i think!
i have seen people try and sell them for around 2000 euros, i doubt they sold at that price.
i'm guessing but i would think between 800 and 1500 $ would be a range. not much help i suppose but you're right they don't come up so often...

it's a truly great sounding synth.

I have seen a few of these on eBay over the last two or three years. One I remember sold for about $9000 and another for over $4000. There was another that sold for close to $2500.

Crazy prices when you think that they are full of Yamaha proprietary circuits (IG 00153 for the VCO, IG00156 for the VCF, IG00159 for the EG, IG00159 for the WP, YM615 for the keyboard assign...), in other words...the day when your CS70M has a technical problem, the only solution is to find another Yamaha CS70M to take the spare parts for repair !

SSM and CEM circuits are a real breeze to find on the net...no problem. But for these Yamaha proprietary circuits, forget it.
It is much easier to be a good equipment purchaser than to be a great musician.

There's one for sale in Montreal for around 2000$ CAD. I think I'd take a shot if it was 500$ less, but I'm just unsure how I would use it so it's too high for me to buy it.

Just for the record/archives, I found one and paid $2500 for it. It has Kenton midi installed and had just had a full checkup/service.
$2K CAD seems like not too bad of a price to me, I'd certainly pay that much again if this were stolen/destroyed/etc.
While I'm not going to go so far as to say it's better than a CS80, it's definitely getting more use in the studio than my old CS80 used to. It sounds very similar but a little softer to me, and soft is what I like the poly CS stuff for.
