Novation KS Rack Factory Patches

Postby NovationLover » Tue Aug 23, 2011 11:09 am

Hi,
I've recently bought a used KS Rack, but the factory patches are all overwritten. How can I download the factory patches? I have searched in the download page, but there is only the manual and the latest OS.

Thanks, Giacomo. :)

I don't know. I was referred to that download a while back. Might be worth trying to load them anyway, back up what's on your KS first though.

If not, it might be worth contacting Novation.

Can you explain me?

Thanks, Giacomo.
P.S.: It's my first hardware synth :)

OK. You need a MIDI utility like MIDIOX (http://www.midiox.com/). Download & install this on your computer.

Then, you need a MIDI to USB cable (something like an Edirol UM-1), that has a USB connection on one end and 2 MIDI connections on the other.

Connect the KS to the computer with the MIDI to USB cable (MIDI out on the e.g. UM-1 to MIDI in on the KS & MIDI in on the UM-1 to MIDI out on the KS). Turn on the computer, then the KS & start MIDIOX.

Check the MIDI Devices in MIDIOX & set them to your MIDI to USB device.

Click on the View tab & select Sysex.

Click on Command Window & select Load File

Select the Syx file you want to load.

Click on Command Window & select Send Sysex.

You'll have to repeat these last 3 steps for all the sysex files.

No problem. You can use MIDIOX to save a sysex dump from your KS as well as send one to the KS.

Do you want me to service your car and eat your dinner for you as well ;)

To send a sysex dump from the KS to your computer, connect it all up as before.

Start MIDIOX. Open the Sysex window. Click on the Sysex tab.

On the KS, go to the utilities menu, select the Transmit MIDI Sysex Dump with a value of whatever you desire to dump (eg Dump All Banks will dump all programs, performances & global banks), then press the Write button on the KS.

The sysex dump will begin. You will see the bytes received on your computer. When it's done, click on Command Window, then Save As and store the file where you want.
