I love this website and lurk often. I want to introduce myself and share some of my music. My name is Matt, I'm from Detroit and now live in Washington. I play dark (mostly) analog electronic music influenced by a variety of stuff like sci-fi/horror film scores (Carpenter, Goblin, Frizzi, Cordio, etc...), Krautrock, early Techno + Acid house, EBM, dark, cynical italo action films of the 80's, post-apocalyptic movies, atmospheric crime films (Michael Mann and Paul Schrader for example).
I've previously released two eps (The Future Barbarians CD-R and The Elders Of New Detroit C20) that are now sold out, so I put them up for free download on my bandcamp page -
From June of 2011 to Feb of 2012 I recorded roughly 25 tracks for an LP and eventually narrowed it down to 9. Right now it's being mastered by James Plotkin and then it's going to be released on Retrograde and Cylindrical Habitat Modules in a first press of 500 copies. I put up a track to stream on my soundcloud page, it's called "Somewhere In The Dark."
For all 3 releases I used only hardware equipment, no midi sequencing, soft synths, or sampling. Everything was played by hand and multi-tracked except for my drum machines which I programmed in the unit.
The LP, "Tough To Kill," is mostly a Korg DW-8000 and a DSI Mopho keyboard but there's also a Kawai K3m, Yamaha FB-01, and Microkorg on it, synth-wise. The drum machines were a Roland TR-505 and a Boss DR-670 (mostly playing the 808 sounds). FX were a mixture of pedals and processors. Thanks for taking the time.
sooooo......that was the most honest and and relatable promotion of one's own music i've ever seen on here. very articulate, too. it sounds like we're influenced by and making the same types of music.
it also doesn't hurt that i'm curious as to how you make your mopho sound in the mix.
however I am very tired right now, and I'm going to go lay down soon, so i'm not gonna be awake enough to give your music a fair listen, but i shall save the link and listen sometime in the next couple days when i get a chance.

I like how the song very much brings to mind carpenter's stuff--i can totally imagine some 30-something scarred unshaven anti-hero fighting zombies/aliens/soldiers/monsters to it. and I mean that in the best possible way

Born and raised in the shadow of Detroit, Matthew Akers is a native of urban decay and withering cityscapes, political corruption and crime beyond the scope of “normal,” and the general unsettling vibe in the air that somewhere, not far away, some ugly s**t is going down. Around 2009, he picked up a synth & drum machine & taught himself how to channel the settling dust of a crumbling city into the sound of gritty electronic soundtrack scores, influenced by old gods of the genre such as Froese, Carpenter, and Frizzi. 2010 was the year of his first recording, the self-released, The Future Barbarians, followed by The Elders Of New Detroit on Retrograde in 2011.
