Enya's "On Your Shore" -PPG Wave or D-50?

Ah, one of my favorite synth pads ever. It sets the backdrop of the song perfectly.

The main synths she was using when this was recorded were a D-50, Juno 60, PPG Wave and Kurzweil K250.

Any PPG or D50 owners familiar with this kind of sound? Sounds to me like a Wave with a generous amount of reverb. I don't think it would be coming from the Juno or the K250.

Enya is "famous" for overusing the Pizzicato Strings preset on the D-50 on many songs. Sail Away amongst others.

Actually, the Pizagogo preset was only used in Orinoco Flow if I'm not mistaken. It's probably her most recognized song, however.

You're talking about the same song, it's also called "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)"

I remember hearing it in a Crystal Light ad...

Definately not a PPG Wave, though just about any synth could make that pad. My money is on the Juno or the D-50.

Agreed, my money's on the Juno-60, which seems to be her go-to synth. In fact, can't recall offhand any other blatant D50 elsewhere on Watermark besides Orinoco ...

Ughh dammit, I really should have picked up a Juno 60 a few years ago when they were still in the $500 range... :x

Flawless vocal production. I think it's a random soft pad on the D-50.

Don't mean to necrobump this thread, but yeah, now that I have a D-50 I'm pretty convinced that's what was used here. I had a Juno-106 as a teenager, so I'm pretty familiar with that sound. But I would turn to the D-50 first.

In fact, it kinda sounds to me like the Fantasia preset with the PCM muted.

I loved Enya as a kid. I first heard that song when I was maybe four or so, and every time I hear it now as an adult, it's just so calming and nostalgic. But actually playing it now, on this instrument, is kind of amazing. I can hear my childhood is streaming out of these outputs.
