Mantronik used a Fairlight?

Postby D-Collector » Wed May 22, 2013 10:44 pm

I know he had access to a lot of nice gear after their first successes, but did he really use the CMI for production in this track? Or was it only to appear more hi-tech in the music video, like many others did? I have read earlier that some hip hop/electro groups did use it occasionally..

Good question!

You can see the Fairlight is powered up, but it's displaying Page 1 as if it has just been boot up. You would think they would have it displaying Page 2 where you can load samples or Page 3 where you tell it which sound each voice plays. Or Page R and have it playing a sequence...

I wouldn't assume anything about instrument use from people miming in a video. At least they bothered to turn it on. The average punter wouldn't have a clue what was being displayed on the CRT anyways.
