Waldorf Pulse 2 - working unit at MusikMesse

Postby Hugo76 » Sat Apr 13, 2013 10:10 pm

Just came across this:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bzBRV5RWhYk

My German isn't the best, can anyone translate the main points in the conversation?
Firmware finished?
Their web site states "available spring 2013". I think I must have this beauty :-D

I'm glad to hear this. I'm GASing over a Waldorf Pulse 2 and really hope it won't end up vaporware.

How exactly does Waldorf stay in business? I mean, what do their balance sheets look like from quarter to quarter - staff salaries, rent and other expenses vs. actual revenue generated?

Customers love their products but they don't build that many, there are shipping delays & buggy OSes, etc. So how do they turn a profit?

Look at their history, they've gone bankrupt once already. Blofeld gave them a second shot but now they need more new products to stay alive.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Ok guys... Let's see about these germans :)

First 30 seconds advertising and "oh wow, this is now really it, the Pulse 2, finalized software, the thing is almost done"

Then he's rambling that he instantly recoginzed the old sounds; Memorable around 50 seconds onwards (no real questions asked by the interviewer yet):

Waldorf guy: "So what do you want to know really? Do you want to know what's new?"

Interviewer: "No I want to know whether the bass is exactly as phat (sic) and brutal as on the Pulse 1."

Waldorf guy: "Let's put it this way: we have our volume fader only halway up, I don't dare to push it more otherwise I'll blow the speaker."

Then, new stuff ("Schmankerln") appropriate to the year 2013: 500 presets, display, paraphonic mode up to 8 (sic!) voices [that's nice feature, how does that work with 3 oscs?], VCF FM, VCA AM. And of course analog ;)

That's 2.30 in it. Then they're talking about analog and digital control and how it's not really a DCO and boring stuff like that. :) And: it has a HPF now. That's about it, then he plays a few presets (presto paraphonic pads, cool :D)

Interviewer asks about cost and delivery time.

Cost: He doesn't know really, but personally guesses around blofeld prices, maybe a little bit more expensive.

Availability: As stated on website, early 2013 / spring time...

That's it. Paraphonic looks interesting I must say, especially with an attack now (looking at you Rocket!)...

Cheers!

I doubt the pulse 2 will be blofeld-level price, but man would that be sweet!

I wish they would have talked more about the paraphonic mode .
Specs say 8/4 voice .
So is that then ....
8 voices one osc / 4 voice with two , or do you get all 3 on all 8 ?
I have 0 idea how divide down works so I'm interested to know .
Also do you get to use all wave shapes or only saw etc, but alas nonerik being such a charismatic and keen journalist didn't bother to ask anything relevant , but " will it do phat ...." Sigh

Yeah, me too. So it has to be some kind of divide down with only three oscs, but why then not make it fully polyphonic? And if it's divide down, why 1 osc for 8 voices / 2 oscs for four (that's what you said, was not in the video - where's this info from?)? Doesn't make any sense... I don't really get it either...

Very annoying, yeah. The guy didn't really ask even just one interesting question, except maybe for price / availability... I wish I could tell you more, but what I have above is all that was in that video...

Sorry I ment that as off the top of my head guessing . I have no more info than anyone else .
I am just thinking out load as to why it would be 8/4 ...that would make me think something is getting sacrificed for 8 voices as other wise what would be the point of the choice ?
