Akai AX80 110v to 240v conversion + need new knobs

Postby GoldSpanner » Fri Feb 28, 2014 4:29 pm

Just bought an Akai AX80 in the UK. It arrived earlier, only for me to find that it's the US version i.e. runs on 110v, and the guy I bought it from failed to mention this.

Whilst a step down transformer would sort it out, in my mind that isn't at all ideal, so is there anything I can do to convert the power section to run 240v? Below are some photos of the transformer/ power section:

I'm also after a replacement data knob and modulation amount knob, if anyone knows where I could get them?

Cheers

Sorry. Looked inside all three of mine and it appears that Akai used several different xformers: 110, 110, 120, and multi-voltage 110,120,220,240. All of mine have the 120-volt one, and only two primary wires coming out of the windings. Looks like you'll have to
1) find a used 240 transformer
2) unlikely - find a new transformer that has the same secondary voltages/amps
3) keep using the converter
4) find a small converter (with the correct amps) that would fit into the case. You might even remove the AC filter board to make room.
