Fairlight library with loop points!

Postby D-Collector » Fri Feb 28, 2014 10:34 am

First of all, this is NOT my doing. Someone has one-upped me, haha! But that's just great.

http://www.nattvard.com/iix/index.php

He's found a way of extracting the samples with both loop points and attack/sustain parameters (if the original patch have them).

To download each disk in full go to "database", under column "library/disk" click the link to the desired disk and a box will appear. Choose "Convert" and you get to download that whole disk folder with samples and SFZ (or akai s-900 if you desire) presets containing all parameters, and even a html page (screenshot) of Fairlights Page-7 for each patch. Neat!

On his site he even has an online program that can convert your disk images straight to the above, so if you are an IIx owner and have floppys with your own custom sounds this is golden! You can even convert wavs to CMI disk image, and there is an app to upload a .co file and view it on Page-7 style.

There are some patches that are great with original loop points, but there are a lot of bad ones too. And for some samples I have found seamless loops with Extreme Sample Converter whereas the original loop pops like hell. But at least this appears to be the closest we have come to the original library on PC with most parameters intact.

Thanks Carl, for your great work on this!

Thanks a ton for sharing this! I was just trying to find a good fairlight sample library or vst emulation last night and didn't have much luck other than a $200 plugin that I don't have the money for.

I can't load either the WAV or the SF file into SFZ+.
Any idea what the problem might be?

I'm able to load other WAV sounds and SF sounds, so I know everything is working ok.

This is worthy of being a sticky :)

I'll make it one, so look for it up the top from now on.

Kontakt only sees the wav file in the SFZ, no loop point or mapping- am I doing something wrong?

EMail Carl through the site - he's pretty quick with replies.

May I just say that I've really been enjoying these samples. Props to D-Collector for posting the link, to Carl for his tremendous work, and I'm guessing to the same "Kirk" from here who was thanked on Carl's page for testing the samples. Really great being able to hear and use these sounds from many a favourite 80s track! :) =D>

Yeah, that's me. But I didn't really do so much other than give Carl a bunch of test disk images for him to work on. He certainly did a great job with this project and he put a lot of time and work into it!

This is what I have discovered too. I could easily be doing something wrong since I'm not very familiar with Fairlight, and even how Kontakt handles certain files.
Since Kontakt has almost become a universal format, could anyone explain what I'm doing wrong? Or maybe loop point and mapping is not possible with this library and Kontakt?

I read his FAQ and there is no reference for Kontakt users. I will send an email.
