Creamware minimax vs Sonic core minimax

Postby the synthman » Mon Mar 17, 2014 5:40 pm

Hi all. I'm toying with Idear of buying ether a Creamware minimax or sonic core minimax. which is better. I know, obviously that are both mini moog clones. Is one any better then the other?. For instance, which has the more stable and latest version OS and is more reliable. Which has the better midi functions. What's the difference between a Creamware & a Sonic core mimmax.?

Thanks

Ok I wasn't sure as I'm sure I read on the web that the creamware ones had older OS then the Sonic core ones which came with v 2.0 OS as standard and was the last update sonic core did for it. Do you know if there is a major difference between the OS versions, it is no longer supported by Sonic core.

ftp://sonic-core.net/software/ASB_Boxes/MINIMAX/DSP_OS/

There is the OS update, and the docs that tell you what it does.

Link works for me :|
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

There is no real difference, the Minimax is just the Scope minimax built into a nice chassis with lots of knobs.
The sound engine is the same.

Ok looked at the files, is that the key and OS update that's in the file, or are they just examples. Seems like v 2 is mostly noise controller update. How do I find out what OS is on the minimax?

I remember updating my minimax via USB when I got it. Don't quite remember what the update included, but mostly tiny changes in the software that installed to PC, which is a graphical representation of the synth with some more "under the hood" settings you can't access on the panel itself + patch librarian. Nothing to affect the sound of the synth itself.

You can actually use the software to create sounds and store them on the synth. Software makes no sound without the synth of course.
