An Actual Reissue From Roland, Sorta: Boss DM2W.

Postby tim gueguen » Tue Jul 15, 2014 10:48 pm

"Roland doesn't do reissues." has long been the refrain. But now they actually have, kinda. Boss has just announced the DM2W delay. http://www.boss.info/global/gear/255/1330 It's a DM2, but with an additional delay mode, an expression input, and direct and delay outs. So, the obvious question some will be asking is whether this indicates the possibility of other reissues. Boss doing reissues has always struck me as more likely than Roland proper given the larger potential market, and doing reissues of old Boss pedals seems more doable than reissues of more complex products.

I thing this is Boss's first analog pedal in ages. This is very interesting even if it's only Boss. Next let's have the CE-2, DC-2 and SG-1 reissues!

Roland also updated a couple of their distortion boxes with "discrete circuits"...rather than op amps? That's just knee-jerk hype, like when Ibanez released a "hand wired" Tube Screamer ($$$$$$$$$) a couple of years back.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Yeah, a hand wired version of a mass produced product that used mass produced op amps, and which could have one of several op amps that fit the same socket used.

Interesting. Also, just when Korg announced a SDD3000 reissue: http://www.korg.com/us/products/effects/sdd3000_pedal/

That's far less of a surprise from Korg, although some folks would prefer a rackmount like the original. How much it has in common circuitwise with the original is another question.
