Korg 707

A good entry level digital synth. It's small in size, simple in its design and offers fairly easy editing. It is a digital FM type synthesizer which makes some very thin and digital but sometimes interesting sounds. The synth engine is similar to the DS-8 without on-board effects. It isn't necessarily useful for any professional work but if you want a lo-fi cheesy digital sound from a toy-like synthesizer then give the 707 a try! It can even be strapped on like a guitar. It is used by Juan Atkins.

Juan Atkins is not a prof ? learn to program this thing and you can find a monster ;)
Got this one for 90€ yesterday and I'm having fun programming complex pad sounds. I always wanted to put my hands on an FM synth but I always found the Yamaha DX7 too difficult to operate. It's helping me a LOT moving my first steps in FM programming. Plus, it can make very personal sounds if you enjoy programming it :) I'd recommend it
Indeed, somewhat cheesy like the DS-8 and good 'family keyboard' (not necessarily for pro use - says who?). But like the DS-8 it has the overlooked feature of real time timbre and EG slider controls - more expression than the 'one slider' korgs of the 80's. You can blend these FM jobs together and get great hard rhodes elec pianos.
I disagree with the "isn't necessarily useful for any professional work " remark. I have usethis synth proffesionally, both in concert and on albums, since it came out. It is one of these rare synths that has it's very own sound! Can't beat that. And FM synthesis with easy-to-adjust parameter acces is a rare thing too. I use it when I need a characteristic lead sound or a deep bass thing. It has a strange digital-nosie artefact to it that is very audible, but if taken into account that noise can be used to create a kind of "breath" noise to the sounds. I love it! :)
i rare gem with hidden goodies. grab it!!! killer sounds if you know what your doing....$99. a steal!
