MF-104 Image

The moogerfooger MF-104 Analog Delay is a limited edition offering from Bob Moog and Big Briar (now Moog Music). This excellent little tool is an authentic analog delay device with a delay range of 40 milliseconds to 0.8 seconds. This is perfect for re-creating an analog slap-back echo effect. Because it's analog, it has a very warm overtone that's nicer than most digital delays.

There are three main knobs to adjust delay time, feedback and wet/dry mix. Each of these parameters can be externally controlled by control voltage or expression pedal. Additional knobs to adjust the Drive or gain of the audio input to the delay, Loop Gain which sets the gain of the external feedback loop, and the Output Level knob are also available. So why is it a limited edition? Big Briar has secured a supply of the last analog delay chips and so only about 1,000 units will be produced. Get yours from Moog Music while they last! It is used by Stereolab and Air.

So I got to use my friend's moogerfooger echo, and he also had a lowpass filter moogerfooger and I think it was the phaser moogerfooger too. WOW I don't think many people realize what these pedals can do.... First of all you can have (wah type) pedals attached to EVERY knob on each pedal. so one for feedback one for delay time...etc which makes them extremely versatile in a live/improv setting. not to mention really spacy but controllable in a show or recording situation. Also you can jack the knobs of two pedals together or two knobs on the same pedal together and one knob now controls both.

Nice analog delays, the foogers are a bit trendy, since you can get a true bucket brigade delay for 150-200 that sound fantastic (600ms or so) and wont break the bank (although this is the only 1000ms analog delay). Keep an eye out for a used one, i snagged one for less than half price. Note that the "long delay" switch delays are extremely murkier than the "short delay" switch. The CV ins/outs are the bees knees, especially if you have other foogers or cv gear.

this delay is very excellent and the possibilities are more than one might think. using a control voltage input to the time you can create some extremely nice analog chorus sounds as well. also running the loop through a flanger can make for some extremely cool sounds as well. is it worth the price well thats up to you.
there is no other analog delay that sounds like it it is its own thing. some people say the new one is better than the old one and vice versa they are both excellent. worth getting if you can find a deal on one.
be patient and you never know what will turn up.
a killer delay and sounds fantastic for dubby stuff.
