Dr:rex is a Loop-Player with synth-like parameters for editing and tweaking your loops! It loads REX files - audio files created in ReCycle, a software tool for slicing loops. Sliced loops can playback at any tempo and can be highly modified. A giant graphic display shows the loop waveform and slices. Here you can select individual slices and edit their pitch, panning, level and decay. The entire loop as a whole can also be transposed over a few octaves and there's an Envelope Amount control to apply envelope modulation to the loop.
The synth-like parameters include the Subtractor/NN-19 styled Filter, Amp and LFO sections. The Filter offers notch, 12dB hi-,band-,low-pass and 24dB low-pass with controls for frequency cutoff, resonance, and its own ADSR envelope. The Amp section has a basic ADSR section. The LFO offers 6 waveforms, rate and amount controls and it can be assigned to modulate the oscillator, filter or panning.
Hands-on control is provided by the same powerful controllers and controller inputs as seen in the Subtractor and NN-19. There's the 2-octave pitch-bender and assignable mod-wheel to control the filter frequency, resonance and decay. Velocity can be assigned to affect the filter or amp sections. Around the back are modulation inputs to the osc, filter, level, and mod-wheel. Modulation outputs from the LFO and filter envelope are available as well. CV/Gate input can be used to control the Dr:rex in addition to a Slice-Gate output and Gate inputs for the filter and amp envelopes. And like the other major synth-like modules in Reason, Dr:rex has from 1 to 99 voices of user-assignable polyphony.
