Teisco SX-400

Teisco SX-400 Image

The SX-400 is a solid 4-voice analog synth. It is most comparable to the Roland Juno 6, but has a better expression-section. The aftertouch and handwheel can trigger vibrato, cutoff and pitch at the same time, variable in speed and sensitivity. Available effects include an Ensemble (chorus) and a Portamento glide-effect. The sub & noise OSC and ensemble-switch are cool and make the SX-400 good for techno and acid too. Unfortunately there are no arpeggiators or sequencers.

All the synth parts in this song were made using a Teisco SX-400, hence the name:

I really wish clueless would refrain from posting "information", but such is the curse of the internet. I own two SX-400s and can confirm that it sounds nothing like the TB-303 or the MS-10. The sound of the SX-400 compares favourably to a Juno-6 or a Jupiter-4 for that matter, it has sweeter sounding filters but slower envelopes than the two aforementioned. It has 3 LFOs (not just 2) where the 3rd LFO resides in the keyboard control section. It also has an envelope auto-trigger function clocked by one of the LFOs and a touch-sensitive keyboard. The rare and unusual triple-chorus ensemble effect is a great bonus and can be used for a lot more than just imitating a Solina string machine, in fact it adds magic sparkle to just about any sound. Finally, the different voice modes makes it a very versatile machine, it can be configured as a 4-note polyphonic single oscillator synth or a duophonic dual oscillator synth or a monophonic 4 oscillator synth for full on oscillator mayhem.

Its a steadfast competitor to Syntechno TeeBee, supposed to be best for 303 sounds, or MS-10 and Rebirth. it delivers dazzling 303 sounds and other basses and leads, cheese italo-strings are another speciality of this great synthesizer. The estimated value here seems too low, don't know.
