UltraMaster Juno-6 Image

The UltraMaster Juno-6 is a faithful virtual reproduction of a Roland Juno-6 Polyphonic Synthesizer. Real-time 64-bit internal ULTRANALOG® wave synthesis technology ensures incredibly realistic emulation of analog subtractive synthesis. Early 80's style arpeggiator and chorus give those lush fat sounds, and there are 100 patches to save your own custom settings! All parameters can be controlled in real-time, via on screen GUI or external MIDI controllers. This synthesizer is completely free and comes with source code! The UltraMaster Juno-6 currently runs on a +200MHz CPU with all major i386 linux distributions only. Unfortunately it is no longer available from the maker.

Features include real-time synthesis, virtually unlimited polyphony and configurable MIDI control of all parameters. ULTRANALOG® pulse, saw and sub square wave oscillators, a high pass filter, LFO and one VCF, VCA, and ENV per voice. Stereo chorus ( 3 speeds ), arpeggio with 3 octave range and up / up&down / down modes, transpose the keyboard to any key, sustain hold and mono or stereo output. There's also a 61-note Virtual Keyboard, load and save, 100 patches / patch set and master tune control.

A great alternative to this is the TAL-U-No-62. It's a Juno emulator, and It's free. Pretty decent. More stuff from TAL Can be found here: http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products

The Windows version I tried does not play very well. The audio is very low if there at all, and the keys act as if sustain is permanently on. A mouse click presses the key and another click is needed to release it. Also I could find no way to connect it with a midi keyboard. It's a project for the programmer's amusement, not much more. It does look rather nice, though. If someone were to fill out the engine in the source code, it could become something.

I have an actual Juno-6. I also have a 106 and I used to own a 60. All great machines. This virtual version doesn't even come close.

There are several Windows ports of this, based on the Ultramaster Linux source code.
