VSamp Image

VSamp is a very inexpensive ($39), no-frills software sample player just for Macintosh users. It comprises a stand-alone program for creating and playing virtual instruments. It is compatible with major Mac sound file formats including SDII and AIFF. VSamp also has a VST Plug-In component for playing VSamp instruments from within a VST sequencer (Cubase, Logic, etc.) and you can use as many as you like simultaneously in a song. If you're super strapped for cash and can never seem to afford that dream sampler, VSamp may be able to hold you over.

VSamp is not particularly special, but it's a handy utility to have. What does VSamp have to offer? A simple but straight forward resonant lowpass filter with six control knobs (frequency, resonance, velocity mod, breath mod, etc.). A simple AHDSR envelope generator is also available. Plus, VSamp can handle up to 128 voices! Pretty nice features for a Mac utility.

VSamp has been successfully used with: Opcode Vision and Studio Vision, Steinberg Cubase, Emagic Logic and Logic Audio, MOTU Performer and Digital Performer, Coda Finale, Tontata MIDIGraphy. Also, Passport Encore, Mastertracks Pro, and Digidesign Pro Tools were compatible by using the OMS IAC bus in conjunction with OMS Thru.
