Novation Super Bass Station

Super Bass Station Image

The Super Bass Station takes its classic predecessor and adds to it an impressive set of features. These include separate ADSR's for the filter and envelope. The key follow effect was added to filter section. An SH-type sub oscillator and noise generator have been added to the oscillator sections. An ultra-cool ring mod effect and a true mixer section for balancing all these sound sources together have also been added.

Plenty of updates have been made to the effects section for the ultimate in monophonic bass synthesis. The Super Bass Station now features distortion, stereo outs, panning, stereo chorus, two LFO's, an arpeggiator with clock out and doubled memory to 200 patches (50 preset, 150 user). A new slide function creates much more realistic 303 patterns.

An amazing upgrade that makes this synth a truly flexible and MIDI aware Roland/Moog bass synth emulator...heck it's way more than that, it's a Novation Super Bass Station! It's used by William Ørbit, Biosphere, Massive Attack, Orbital, Josh Wink, Out of Logic, Nine Inch Nails and Underworld.

The oscillators issue with this synth is exhausting. I have gone to numerous sites and read forum after forum with no resolve. IS THIS THING ANALOG OR DIGITAL? I have owned the keyboard version and two racks at this point and I love the sounds. I would just like someone with some technical knowledge to open one up, take some photos and squash this argument. Are they Digitally controlled ANALOG oscillators, or are they DIGITAL oscillators running through analog filters. I can't sleep...

The super basstation is super powerful anyone who has owned one and learned how to use it won't want to part with it. To say they are not worth 2bills is so misinformed. The bass is solid, the sub bass will shake walls and the synth can do so much more than bass. I know I have owned a basstation keyboard since 96 when it debuted I paid 550 bucks and just got a super in 2010 for 3bills. Its the best Synth I have bought except for my Nord Lead one and Access Virus C which both cost 3 times as much. I also just got a Novation Drumstation for 250 from evilbay (kill dishonesty) and it is mint can be. The drums are tight and very dynamic in any type of mix. Bass and breakbeats are two things I can do well.

Great sounding synth. A couple drawbacks though. The knobs are pretty tightly squeezed together and the arpeggiator doesn't always play nicely with other synth arps. Basically, you need to tweak each patch's arp to suit what you've got upstream. I get a lot of stuck notes when slaved from other synths too. Nonetheless, this thing can surprise you with some freakin' awesome bass,

I think bass stations kick ass. When it comes to acid squelches, the tb303 will always be better due to its great accent programing and resonace, but the bass station isnt far behind!!For kick [beep] groovy house/techno basslines its the b*****s!!.hard dance don BK swears by these little beasts!!. Idealisticly i would like to have both running together and so am thinking of getting one of these little gems too!!.

I used to have one of these a few years back. For a dedicated bass synth, the bass is pretty weak. Nice liquid filters, though.

I see they go for around $450 on ebay. In my opinion they're not worth more $200.
