Oberheim Matrix 1000

Oberheim Matrix-1000 Image

The analog Matrix 1000 is essentially 1,000 Matrix 6 patches in a single-space compact rackmount MIDI module. It has the same synth architecture as the Matrix 6. Each of its 6 voices have two DCO's (digitally controlled analog oscillator), a low pass filter, 2 VCA's, 3 envelope gens, 2 LFO's, and 2 ramp gens. The sounds are plentiful and good enough, however sounds can only be edited via MIDI, so you'll need an external MIDI editor (such as MOTU's Unisyn) or Access' Matrix Programmer to edit parameters. You can also load sounds from the Matrix 6 via SysEx or software.

The Matrix 1000 provides an excellent source of pads, textures and ambient sounds. It has 195 "keyboard" sounds, 118 "strings", 130 "woodwinds & perc", 239 "synthesizer", 119 "bass", 74 "lead" and 125 "effects". For the price, there is no better way to find genuine analog Oberheim Matrix sounds in a compact and very in-expensive rack module that is loaded with more sounds than you'll ever need! The older versions of the Matrix 1000 have a black front-panel. The newer models in the '90's have a cream colored face-plate. It has been used by Apollo 440, Juno Reactor, Moby, Cirrus, Fatboy Slim, Laurent Garnier, ATB, Depeche Mode, Future Sound of London, Pet Shop Boys, and Faithless.

do all these software programmers for the M1000 essentially send the module MIDI cc? Would it be possible to just send the synth cc # messages to control it's parameters?

Also, does this synth send MIDI? so that one could send it MIDI and it could send MIDI back according to how its parameters are changing.

Just so ya know, there is a Lemur template for editing the 1000. Makes it far more enjoyable to work with.

I bought it 3 days ago for $200, but just hav oppotunity to do the testing. I think it sounds different from Roland's MKSes that I got which was what I thought (MKS 7, 30, juno2 aka MKS 50) although, they share the same DCOed in rack kind. Lets say u can't make them related in sound architecture. Matrix 1000 sounds far more inspiring with bargain of 800 factory patches + 200 user's settings. Prepare to pay between $200 to $400

If its a headphone output, it's a stereo. But for the audio out put if it doesn't mention about havingn the L next to the R at the out put, then it's a mono. Cuz stereo basically means the listening image that you can perceive from both left & right ears which would form or expand listening dimension
Also no mater how many voices you have on your poly synth, it doesnt necessarily mean that the audio out is assigned to be a stereo
